What does the beginners’ course include?
In the beginners’ course, you will learn basic sword handling and the fundamental techniques of the art, which provide a solid foundation for practicing Haidong Gumdo. During the course, you will study the most common cutting techniques, movement with the sword, as well as basic attacking and defensive techniques. Haidong gumdo also challenges the mind, developing self-awareness, confidence, and body control. Anyone can join the beginners’ course regardless of fitness level, background, age, or gender.
Training is done with both soft swords and wooden swords. The soft sparring swords are light, and in the beginning we use them specifically because of their lightness, allowing the hands to gradually adapt to the training load. Wooden swords are used for individual practice during the course.
Each participant will receive a certificate upon completing the course. After the beginners’ course, you can continue in the advanced group with color-belt training and take the yellow belt test. The belt test has a separate fee, and with it you will receive a membership passport. If you wish, you can also purchase a training uniform (Dobok). Please note that the course fee does not include insurance.
The course fee is 100€, which includes a wooden sword, the next season’s training fee after the beginners’ course (value 75–90€), and the current year’s membership fee (39€).
Christmas price for spring 2026 course 80e!
For the course, you will need a water bottle and indoor sportswear.
The minimum age is 12 years, but younger participants may start if accompanied by an adult.
